Capitol to look into sinking

One of the two speedboats acquired by the Cebu Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) sank when it was supposed to be used during a fluvial procession organized by the Talisay City Government last week.

Alvin Santillana, head of Talisay City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (TCDRRMO), said that the incident was caused by strong waves brought about by the southwest monsoon that hit some parts of the country last week.

Julius Regner, PDRRMO public information officer, told SunStar Cebu that they plan to look into the sinking after receiving the incident report from the TCDRRMO.

He wanted to determine if the sinking was an accident.

The speedboat, which was acquired last year, is worth P3.9 million.

Santillana clarified that the sinking of the speedboat was not intentional.

He said that they were supposed to use the speedboat to help safeguard the participants in the fluvial procession, which ended up being cancelled.

The fluvial procession was supposed to be one of the highlights of the cit’s yearly fiesta in honor of St. Teresa de Avila.

But because of the rough seas, Santillana said they decided to hold a motorcade instead.

The speedboat is currently dry docked at the South Road Properties.
