Amit routs Chien in final, 9-2, bags Guri 9-Ball title

Indeed, good things come to those who wait. Two-time World 10-Ball champion Rubilen Amit waited four years to get crowned as an international champion again. Amit routed Wei Tzu Chien of Chinese Taipei, 9-2, to clinch the 2017 Guri International 9-Ball Championship at Guri Sports Complex in Guri City, Korea over the weekend.

“This means a lot because it took years for me to win another title,” she told SunStar Davao.

Amit, who won her second World 10-Ball title in 2013, said that her semifinal win against Eunji Park of South Korea was tougher than the finals match. Amit beat Park, 9-8.

“The Korean really had a good break,” she said.

She took an early lead, 4-2, but Park crawled back to force a 5-all deadlock in the 10th frame of the winner’s break format. The Cebuana ace, however, recovered to snatch an 8-6 lead before Park struggled her way back to equalize anew at 8-all. But Park succumbed to a scratch in the 17th rack, paving the way for Amit to clear the table and wrap up the match

“I am happy with the experience and grateful for the blessing,” she said. “Through hardwork and faith, you can achieve your goals. (The win is) for the Lord, to glorify his name.”

Amit also said that in every match, she focused and prayed on top of her “play to win mindset”.

The feat, according to her, will be a good momentum for her bid in the World 9-Ball Championship next month.

“I think it (title) is a good boost for my confidence and morale going into the world championships,” she said.

Amit recently clinched the silver medal in women’s 10-ball pool singles in the 5th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games and another silver in women’s 9-ball pool singles in the 2017 Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. /
