The Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) 7 conducted an Oplan Linis Piitan in the female dormitory of the Cebu City Jail in Barangay Kalunasan.

Headed by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) 7, agents searched for illegal drugs inside the facility with assistance from the police and BJMP 7. The operation yielded no contraband.

“This just proves that our efforts to cut off the alleged drug contacts in the female dorm were achieved. This is to clean our image,” said Jail Chief Insp. Elsie Alcomendras, officer-in-charge of the female dormitory.

Alcomendras said that jail officers are doing their best to prevent contraband from being sneaked into the facility.

She said that out of the 623 female inmates, 536 of them are serving jail time for drug-related charges.

“We are continuously monitoring them especially the high-profile ones but so far, we have yet to receive information that an inmate detained here has a drug contact on the outside,” she said.

Alcomendras said they are also strictly monitoring the female dormitory because it is congested. She said that the facility is supposed to house only 62 inmates.

To address the proble, she said that BJMP will be constructing a P16-million four-storey building inside the city jail, which is expected to open in 2018. /
