MARCO POLO PLAZA CEBU JOINS INT’L COASTAL CLEANUP
The hotel announces it is also organizing a monthly corporate social responsibility activity that would include feeding program, breast cancer awareness advocacy, and other livelihood projects for the community
Marco Polo Plaza joined the rest of the world last Sept. 16 for the 32nd International Coastal Cleanup project.
Ocean Conservancy’s International Coastal Cleanup (ICC) is the world’s largest volunteer effort for the ocean’s health. This is held every third Saturday of September every year where thousands of volunteers from around the globe participate, clearing trash from coastlines, rivers and lakes, and recording every piece of trash collected.
For the Cebu leg, Marco Polo Plaza coordinated with City Environment and Natural Resources Office forester Raul C. Pasoc. It was held at the coastal area of the South Road Properties.
The team was comprised of 20 associates from different departments and the management team of the hotel. Other organizations were also there to show support and care for the cleanup project that had the theme, “Together for our Ocean.”
All kinds of trash ranging from plastics, to lighters, sachets, bottles and styrofoam were collected.
“There is much work and educating to be done. Although, we were able to remove a substantial amount of garbage, doing it once is not enough. It really is everybody’s job to take care of the ocean,” said Jhon Pino, graphic artist of Marco Polo Plaza Cebu.
“The team strives to contribute to the sustainability and long-term development of our environment for the many future generations. One of our core values is Corporate Citizenship and we are committed to improving our environment,” said Marco Polo Plaza general manager Brian Connelly.
The hotel is set to hold monthly CSR activities that include feeding programs, breast cancer awareness events, and other livelihood projects. This will be headed by Laedee Gonzales, hotel’s client, community and environment services executive.
