The Cebu City Government will soon start implementing P33 million worth of programs and projects that will enhance police’s operations.

Arnel Tancinco, executive assistant of Mayor Tomas Osmeña, said that procurement for these programs and projects, which are funded under this year’s annual budget, will be done before the year ends. They hope to fully implement these by 2018.

During last Wednesday’s budget hearing, Tancinco said that the City will form a bomb squad that will be composed of the existing personnel of the city’s Spe- cial Weapons and Tactics team.

“At present, we still don’t have our own bomb squad, that’s why we plan to form one,” he said.

Aside from the bomb squad, Tancinco said the City also has an approved P10-million budget this year for the purchase of two vehicles for the Swat team, P5 million for the repair and improvement of some police stations, P5 million for the renovation of the firing range, and P5 million for the purchase of disaster response and rescue equipment.

Another P5 million was also approved for the purchase of communication equipment for the command center, which will be located at the ninth floor of City Hall’s executive building, and P3 million for the repair of the said facility.

For 2018, the executive department is proposing P138 million for peace and order programs. /
