The Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) has started to collaborate with stakeholders and the community for the security preparations of next year’s Sinulog celebration.

Supt. Artemio Ricabo, CCPO’s deputy director for administration, said that police have started their “target-hardening” measures.

“We are doing seminars with security managers in hotels for anti-criminality as both domestic and foreign tourists will check into their establishments,” Ricabo said.

Ricabo is also in favor of the plan to hold the parties in the South Road Properties as it would make their duties easier if the people will be dispersed.

The seminar that CCPO conducted was spearheaded by Fuente Police Station Chief Atty. Theresa Macatangay.

During the activity, Macatangay said they also focused on anti-terrorism efforts aside from tackling the local modus of criminal groups.

“We have to make them aware of the existence and realities of terrorism because we see it happen in Luzon, we see it happen in Mindanao. It also includes existing modus operandi like theft and robbery of other groups,” she said.

The Fuente police chief said it was the second seminar they held that focused on the public’s safety not only for the Sinulog but also for the upcoming holidays.

Leandro Paralisan Jr., security manager of Golden Prince Hotel, said it is important to see signs and identify a possible active shooter during big events.

“This is will help us because after what happened in Marawi, the President said that the war does not end there. It is important to have constant awareness so that it won’t create panic among our guests,” he said. /
