PSC successfully organizes Children’s Games
The Philippine Sports Commission came to Carcar City for the Children’s Games Sports for Peace last Sunday with a goal in mind: To introduce children, who has barely no access to sporting events, to an organized competition. And they ended the day fulfilled that they achieved that goal.
More than 500 kids from 14 of the 15 barangays of Carcar joined the two-day event, who were taught the rudiments of basketball, volleyball, athletics and chess.
PSC, led by Commissioner Mon Fernandez, brought with them coaches, who shared their insights to the kids.
“Only 14 out of 15 barangays sent their participants but nevertheless, we were able to gather more than 500 kids and we were able to achieve our goal to introduce the kids to an organized competition,” said Nonnie Lopez the overall project coordinator for Children’s Games Visayas said.
The kids also took part in mini competitions in parlor games such as the balloon race, hulahoops and pabitin.
The event ended with kids showing their gratification to the PSC.
“Nalingaw kaayo ko. Karon pa ko naka experience og ing-ani. Alegre kaayo unya daghan kaayo og bata,” nine-year-old Jamaica Dupal-ag of Gen. Luna St. in Poblacion 2 told SunStar Cebu.
“I hope that Mayor (Nice) Apura will continue this project. We at the PSC just laid down the foundation. We showed them the right way to encourage children to be active in sport. Our main goal is to discover grassroots talents out from the Children’s Games,” Fernandez said.
The Children’s Games will be in Cebu City Sports Center this weekend for another round of games.
It will be participated by children from 80 barangays and the muslim communities and the street children.
