Cebu 5th most populous province, says census

Cebu Province is one of the top five most populous provinces in the country, according to the 2015 population census of the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA).

Cebu, excluding its three highly urbanized cities, has a total population of 2.93 million, making it fifth among the five provinces in the country with the biggest population­s.

First on the list is Cavite with 3.7 million while Bulacan came in second at 3.3 million.

Laguna Province placed third with three million while Pangasinan came in next with 2.95 million.

In Central Visayas, Cebu Province is also the most densely populated of the four provinces.

Cebu Province has 594 peo- ple per square kilometer.

For highly urbanized cities, the cities of Mandaue and Lapu-Lapu in Cebu came first and second, respective­ly, in terms of population density.

Based on the 2015 Census, Mandaue City has 14,402 people per square kilometer while Lapu-Lapu City has 7,024 people per square kilometer.

For the component cities in the region, Talisay City in Cebu is the most densely populated, with 5,710 people living per square kilometer.

Three legislativ­e districts in Cebu have the biggest population in Central Visayas.

The first district of Cebu ranked first with a population of 709,660, followed by the 5th district at 558,548. Third is the 6th District with a population of 553, 894.

The 2nd and 7th districts of Cebu are two of three legislativ­e districts in Central Visayas with the least number of population.

The 7th district of Cebu came in second to the lone district of Siquijor, with a population of 214, 364. The 2nd district of Cebu has a population of 239,820.

For the municipali­ties in Central Visayas, Cordova is the most densely populated with 3,482 people living per square kilometer.

The 2015 Census of Population is the 14th conducted by the National Government since the first census in 1903.

Around 90,000 enumerator­s, 23,000 team supervisor­s and 5,000 census area supervisor­s conducted the 2015 population census nationwide.
