Bonifacio’s fight is not over yet, says official

“Let us continue to fight battles against social illnesses,” Vice Mayor Edgardo Labella said in his speech during the 154th birth anniversar­y rites for the Katipunan hero Andres Bonifacio at the Plaza Independen­cia.

Labella, Councilor Margot Osmeña and some c ity councilors were present during the ceremonial rites, which was also attended by government agencies, such as the Department of Education, Philippine National Police; and civic organizati­ons such as the Knights of Columbus, Knights of Rizal. Some veterans, the Boy Scouts of the Philippine­s, and some members of the Muslim community were also present.

“We still have battles to fight so that the death of Andres Bonifacio would not be in vain,” said Labella.

Social ills, he said, are still ram- pant in the country.

“We have battle to fight especially against social and political imbalance, illegal drugs and corruption. The government have programs to help our community and to stop this problem we are facing, we will continue what Andres Bonifacio has started,” Labella added.

Meanwhile, Malo Manonggiri­ng, Central Visayas director of the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos, led the Muslim community during the gathering.

“We were reminded by the struggle of Andres Bonifacio to be be united against poverty and terrorism, graft and corruption,” Manonggiri­ng said. “Muslims and non-Muslims should love our country, just like what Andres Bonifacio did,” he added. /
