Ateneo de Cebu routs Mindanao’s Ferndale in first day of 32nd Milo SBPPassere­lle national finals

San Beda College-Rizal and home bet Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu (SHS-AdC) cruised to easy wins in their first games of the 32nd SBP Passerelle National Finals backed by Milo at the Cebu Coliseum yesterday. San Beda College chalked up a dominating 88-48 win over Hold Child College of Davao, 88-48, in the Passerelle (15-Under) division. The SHS-AdC also had a strong showing on its first assignment as it fashioned out a 49-38 victory against Ferndale Internatio­nal School-Mindanao in the SBP (12-Under) division. Jared Bahay provided the spark for SHS-AdC with 17 points capped by an unconteste­d layup nearing the end of the fourth quarter.

Powerhouse San Beda College-Rizal and home bet Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu (SHS-AdC) cruised to easy wins in their first games of the 32nd SBP Passerelle National Finals backed by Milo at the Cebu Coliseum yesterday.

San Beda College chalked up a dominating 88- 48 win over Holy Child College of Davao, 88- 48, in the Passerelle ( 15- Under) division.

Price Ray Alao finished with 16 points for San Beda College, while teammates Antonio Lledo III, Naz Gabrielle San Juan, and John Elbert Lopez each handed nine points.

San Beda had an eight-point lead after the first frame before they broke away with a 14-2 run capped by a steal and an unconteste­d layup by Sebastian Troy Valencia to make it 36-16 midway through the second quarter.

San Beda did not look back from there and maintained a solid lead throughout the third quarter before erecting the gap to 40 points at the end of the game.

SHS-AdC also had a strong showing on its first assignment as it fashioned out a 49-38 victory against Ferndale Internatio­nal School-Mindanao in the SBP (12-Under) division.

Jared Bahay provided the spark for SHS-AdC with 17 points capped by a timely cut to the basket that resulted in an unconteste­d layup near the end of the fourth quarter.

Kristian Michael Porter poured in 11 points for SHS-AdC, while Marco Polo Jumao-As had 11 points for Ferndale Internatio­nal School.

The SHS-AdC led from the start of the game, ending the first quarter with six-point edge, 148. The Visayas champion team waxed hot in the second quarter and widen the gap to 18 at the half, 33-15.

SHS-AdC continued to play hard in the second half before ending the game with an 11-point lead, 49-38.

The Internatio­nal School for Better Beginnings ISBB-Luzon sneaked past Hua Siong College of Iloilo, 85-81, in overtime in the Passerelle division. Troy Umayao led ISBB with 24 points and teammate Yuan Pasumbal added 21.

James Jimera scored 28 points for Hua Siong College of Iloilo.

Two-time defending SBP champion La Salle Greenhills showed what they’re made of after routing Berkeley School of Baguio, 78-48.

Lorenzo Competente and Marc Carganilla combined for 34 points to anchor La Salle Greenhills in their first game.

Miguel Tibayan had 15 points and Neohesus de Leon added 14 in a losing effort for Berkeley School of Baguio.

All teams in both Passerelle and SBP divisions will play three games in the first round and the top two teams will advance to the championsh­ip rounds today. /
