As part of its thrust to have a peaceful, solemn Fiesta Señor celebration, the Cebu City Government has turned down three of four proposals from private organizers due to three “rowdy” nature.

Councilor Dave Tumulak, chair of the Sinulog executive committee, said they approved a concert that will be staged at the Cebu Business Park, while they disapproved the other three disco parties that’s supposed to be held at the South Road Properties (SRP).

“The concert on Jan. 19 is not rowdy and it also has a time limit. Aside from this, they have complied with the required contingency plans. They also have their own emergency, safety and security personnel,” he said.

Aside from this, Tumulak said, the City may also decline the proposal of another organizer who is planning to hold a big event at the SRP on Jan. 19.

The councilor told reporters that the proposal was objected to by the City Transportation Office (CCTO) as it anticipates the congestion the event might cause at the coastal road.

“We found the reason of CCTO valid because the SRP is currently used as the alternative route given the ongoing construction of the underpass project on N. Bacalso Ave.,” he said.

The venue for the party is also located across the Il Corso de Mare, which will be used as the temporary terminal for southbound buses and vans-for-hire during the Sinulog feast day and grand parade.

Meanwhile, the City Government has also turned down the proposals of some barangays to hold disco parties within their areas from Jan. 19 to 21.

Among those who have inquired at Tumulak’s office are the officials of Barangay Lorega San Miguel, while officials of other villages have reportedly contacted the councilor via text message.

Tumulak said they had to decline the proposals as these barangays are located within 300 meters of the Sinulog parade route.

The Cebu Government is banning all parties and the sale of liquor within 300 meters of the route to avoid chaos.
