She went home with the P50,000 cash prize. “I did not hope to win this, I’m now 75 years old and there are players younger than me. This was given by God to me,” said Enoveso, who has five children and 13 grandchildren. She says her form of exercise is fetching them from school every day.

At 75 years old, Dory Enoveso is not your typical grandma. She showed this after beating male and female bowlers in the Senior Masters division of the 19th Bowling Tenpin Association (BTA-Cebu) Sinulog Open National Tournament yesterday.

Enoveso of Team BTA-PSBC scored 2,068 in the 10-game series to win the first ever Seniors Masters title and bagged the P50,000 cash prize at the Gaisano Bowlingplex in Banilad, Cebu City.

This was the first time that the organizers put up the Seniors Masters division for the players 50-above to co-highlight the Masters Open competition.

“I did not hope to win this, I’m now 75 years old and there are players younger than me. This was given by God to me,” said Enoveso, who has five children and 13 grandchildren.

Enoveso started bowling eight years ago after being invited by friends. Since then, she fell in love with the sport and plays at least once or twice every week and also joins local tournaments.

“I play bowling for fun and to win a tournament like this is a big bonus for me,” said Enoveso, who shares that eating the right food and having good exercise is the secret to a healthy life.

“I eat fruits, vegetables and fish. That’s my secret,” said Enoveso.

Enoveso said that her form of exercise is fetching her grandchildren from school to home every day.

Enoveso, a 39-handicapper shot 169, 163, 146, 151 and 181 in the first five games before hitting 164, 155, 199, 148 in the next four games and capped the tournament with her best 202.

“This is the second biggest tournament I had won, next to the 2015 Pilipinas Sugbu National Tournament,” said the full-time housewife.

As an active bowler, Enoveso also joins tournaments outside Cebu together with fellow Cebuano bowlers. She said that she will use her cash winning for the outof-town events.

“I will keep my cash prize so that I can use it for the tournaments, especially outside of Cebu—in Visayas and Mindanao. I will also spend some of it for my grandchildren,” she said.

Clifford Tan, a 12-handicapper, of BTA scored 2,044 for second place, while BTA president Bel Suelto Jr., also a 12-handicapper, finished with 2,039 for third place.

The rest of the Top 10 bowlers are Vivian Padawan (2,032), Bede Ilano (2,012), Leo Tecson (1,968), Tony Zuleta (1,964), Roland Bantilan (1,960), Luther Tapaya (1,958) and Egay Alqueza (1,956).

Meanwhile, action in Open Masters was still ongoing at press time.
