TRANSPORTATION Cebu City, Seoul ink deal on transport improvement
The Cebu City Government is set to work together with the Metropolitan Government of Seoul, South Korea to promote exchanges and cooperation on transportation policy and improvement.
The City Council authorized Mayor Tomas Osmeña last week to enter into and sign a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Seoul Metropolitan Government for the matter.
In his approved resolution, Councilor Raymond Garcia said this will allow both cities to work together in reinforcing their respective transport facilities.
Under the MOU, both cities shall share information and technology in the field of smart transportation system.
This will include, but not limited to, Seoul’s sharing of information on its experience on urban transportation management and operation system.
The MOU also covers sharing of information and technology on the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT), intellectual transportation system, bus depot, transport card system and automatic fare charging system.
“Both cities shall provide the necessary administrative support for public and private enterprises based in Seoul and Cebu to share technologies on their joint projects. Both cities shall promote exchange visits of officials specializing in transport management,” reads a portion of the MOU.
The MOU will be in effect for two years, as long as it is not revised under agreement of both cities.
Officials of the two cities will meet on Feb. 9 at the Cebu City Hall to discuss the outline of the Seoul-Cebu policy exchange.
Osmeña and Seoul Assistant Mayor for Transportation Goh Hong Seog will sign the MOU on the same day. /
