WALL NEAR CONSTRUCTION PROJECT COLLAPSES
No one reported injured in the Basak Pardo incident, but some houses were damaged after the wall collapsed on their properties
A portion of a concrete wall beside a building construction project in Sitio Villa Zacate, Barangay Basak Pardo, Cebu City collapsed yesterday. No one was hurt in the incident. But at least three houses were damaged since their walls were directly attached to the collapsed wall. Among those damaged was the house of Marichu Cabaluna.
The contractor of the project has already taken measures to help the residents.
The contractor is doing exca- vation work for the foundation.
Councilor Dave Tumulak said the contractor was told to mitigate the impact of the excavation work after the incident.
The project was also reported to him due to the danger it posed on the residents.
“Someone reported to us about the wall. They also told us that the matter was already reported to the barangay,” he said.
Tumulak said he sent another representative yesterday to check the situation and measures were already taken.
In previous incidents, some walls collapsed due to the loosening of the soil caused by continuous rains, like what happened in the past two days in some parts of the city.
However, the chief of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) in Mactan, Cebu yesterday said they expected fair weather today after two days of rains in some areas.
Al Quiblat of Pagasa Mactan said the country is still experiencing a moderate La Niña, which caused recent rains.
This phenomenon will end in April. Summer will follow in May.
For February, the country will experience either zero typhoon or only one weather disturbance, which will be less risky to disaster prone areas.
There will be near normal weather condition to above minimum rainfall during this month.
Quiblat said that while the country will experience a low -pressure area, there is no chance for it to become a storm.
