MSI LIONS WIN CYBL CROWN

Monterey School Inc. makes its presence felt and wins CYBL Under 12 crown following a 73-45 beating of One on One

Monterey School Inc. (MSI) Lions totally dominated One on One B and took home the Division 2 Under-12 crown of Cebu Youth Basketball League (CYBL) 2017 - 3rd Conference with a 73-45 beat down yesterday at the Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu (SHS-AdC) Mango Avenue Campus Gym.

MSI came out swinging taking a 19-point lead, 28-9, after just one quarter. From then on, the Talisay City-based school never looked back and totally outclassed One on One B on both ends with their smothering defense that turned into instant offense.

“It was the heart of the kids that led us to victory. Our game plan from a week of practice was really utilized. It was also our defense and they cooperated with the system, the result was very good,” Monterey head coach Ronald Bucao told SunStar Cebu. “Defense was our key. had 20. The other players from the championsh­ip Lions team are Mark Ivan Alba, Kurt Ivan Antiporta, Josephus Karl Cabusas, Benedict Capangpang­an, Kurt Ahmir Escuadro, Cathanieve­r Louie Kuizon, Zeidrick Lloyd Paglinawan, Gyan Dale Sindao, Gurwinder Singh and Christian Villanueva.

Siern Mañago had 11 points for One on One B.

“This is very good because this is a developmen­tal (league). We can see the abilities of the kids, and the parents are very supportive, which makes CYBL a very good league,” said Bucao.

Meanwhile, Alocillo Training School (ATS) 2 bagged the Division 2 Under-15 crown with a 3827 victory over University if the Visayas (UV) B.

The game was nip-and-tuck most of the way before ATS dominated the final quarter. With game tied at 27-27, ATS 2 scored 11 unanswered points to take home the title.

John Vercide led ATS 2 with nine points, while Spencer Gonzalez added seven.

Edgar Velarde and Louise Uy had six points each for UV B.

UV beat St. Benedict Childhood Education Centre (SBCEC), 34-15, to earn a slot in the Under-10 finals.

Carl Jacob Cortes scored 12 points, while Marcus Gaius Acosta chipped in 10.

Noah Realiza scored five points for SBCEC.

UV faces Don Bosco Technology Center (DBTC) in the Under-10 division finals.
