Minors arrested for vandalizing cars

-

It was a long night for a 29-yearold father, Jobany Capote, after he completed a trip and delivered milk for his son yesterday.

At dawn, when he went back to his rented car, meant for earning cash as a transportation vehicle network service (TVNS) unit under Grab, he smelled spray paint.

“When I smelled paint, I hurriedly went to my car and looked for whoever was spraying it. I found them and chased after them,” Capote said.

Two minors were taken into custody by the Punta Police Station after they vandalized nine vehicles in Barangay Labangon, Cebu City yesterday.

According to Senior Insp. Ian Macatangay, the two, aged 14 and 15, were rescued by barangay tanods after owners of the cars complained that the minors vandalized their vehicles.

“We are asking the help from the community in watching out for these minors who vandalize walls and even cars. So far, we are investigating reports that they are part of a frat group but our fraternities even joined us in our anti-vandalism drive,” Macatangay said.

Two bottles of spray paint were confiscated from them.

One of the minors who was rescued admitted that they vandalized the cars just for fun and that they were curious.

The Fraternity groups of Tau Gamma Phi and Alpha Kappa Rho together with Cebu City Councilor Dave Tumulak and Police Stations 2, 7, and 10 participated in an anti-vandalism campaign for a graffiti-free Cebu City.

Members of the group erased graffitis on walls and doors on the street using white paint to show their support to the local government of Cebu.

The minors will be turned over to the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).

The police is investigating another minor, allegedly a member of a fraternity group, who also took part in the vandalism but managed to escape.
