Pomeroy advances to Aboitiz Cup finals

It’s off to the finals for Abellana National School (ANS)-Pomeroy after squeaking past Don Bosco Boys Home (DBBH), 3-2, in yesterday’s Boys Under-18 finals at the Cebu City Sports Center (CCSC).

Kurt Cuizon singlehand­edly carried Pomeroy after scoring a hat trick. He scored a quick goal in just the second minute of action and added another in the 22nd minute. Jaire Tanjay answered with a goal for DBBH a minute later.

Joinery Delibios hit the equalizer in the 28th minute but Cuizon answered with the winning goal 10 minutes after.

Pomeroy awaits the winner of other semifinals match between Don Bosco Technology Center (DBTC) A and Paref-Springdale.

Pomeroy also won in the Boys Under-15 age class, beating SHSAdC B, 3-1, in a quarterfin­als match. SHS-AdC A, in the meantime, edged out DBTC B, 2-1, in the other quarterfin­als match.

Meanwhile, SHS- AdC finished with third place honors in the Girls Under-15 division after a 3- 2 penalty shootout victory over Labogon at the Paref- Springdale pitch.

The match was scoreless in regulation and went into a penalty shootout. Labogon took the early lead scoring back-to-back goals, while SHS-AdC missed its first two penalty shots. Third kicker Jenn Cabatingan finally scored for SHSAdC. It was followed up by another goal by Joshper Halili, while Labogon’s third kicker missed her mark and its fourth was caught by SHS-AdC goalkeeper Zam Antolihao. Both teams missed with their next kickers, sending it to sudden death. Antolihao made a crucial save, while Kyla Megio converted the winning goal.
