Tesda to train 100T poor citizens for build program

The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (Tesda) will train at least 100,000 construction workers throughout the country in connection with the “Build, Build, Build” program of President Rodrigo Duterte.

Tesda Director General Guiling “Gene” Mamondiong said those who will graduate from the agency will help the government construct bridges, roads, buildings, and other infrastructure.

He said the ambitious bridge projects of the Duterte administration linking the provinces of Negros Oriental, Cebu, Bohol and Leyte are included in the Build, Build, Build program to make the island provinces more accessible by land travel.

“This is only an initial training for the Build, Build, Build alone. The government’s infrastructure projects will give employment to the people,” Mamondiong said.

He said they will accept applicants for training from the marginalized sector. All the 122 Tesda training centers will be open on Feb. 27-28, 2018 to accept applicants who are indigenous peoples, indigents, and rebel returnees.

In Metro Cebu, there are lists of indigent families from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), which are shared with barangay, municipal and city governments.

“The local officials may give the list to Tesda offices for evaluation to determine if they are really poor. They may enroll at any Tesda training centers on Feb. 2728,” Mamondong said.

Earlier, Cebu Chamber of Commerce (CCCI) President Melanie Ng said the proposed P50-billion Metro Cebu Expressway that will connect Naga City in the South to Danao City in the north will generate jobs. /
