A day after losing Girls 18 crown, Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu blanks Tabor Hills in Aboitiz Cup women’s open final

Just a day after a losing its Girls Under-18 crown, Sacred Heart School-Ateneo (SHS-AdC) quickly bounced back and took home the Ladies Open title of the 19th Aboitiz Football Cup with a 2-0 win over Tabor Hills FC yesterday at the Paref-Springdale foot- ball pitch.

“They really tried their best to get this because yesterday we lost. They made up for it today,” Roseton Bariñan, who coached the team at the same time played center back, told SunStar Cebu.

Arantxa Trebol hit the opening goal in just a minute of regulation, while striker Itsuko Bacatan scored the second goal in the 26th minute with a beautiful strike inside the box.

SHS-AdC finished second last year after losing to San Roque FC (SRFC) in the finals. SRFC didn’t join the tournament this year but some of the players in that championship squad played for Tabor Hills FC.

“We tried to forget the game yesterday and told them that this year, we need to get it because we finished first runner-up last year,” said Bariñan.

SHS-AdC failed to defend its Girls Under-18 crown after a 3-0 defeat to rival St. Theresa’s College (STC) last Saturday.

The SHS-AdC side that played in the Ladies Open fielded its core of players in its Girls Under-18 team. Bacatan was named MVP, while teammates Kim Yoo Jin, Trebol Sydney Gonzales also bagged individual awards.

Kim snagged the Golden Boot, Trebol was named Best Midfielder and Gonzales took Best Defender honors, while Tabor Hills FC Mariel Bacla-an was awarded as the Best Goalkeeper.

Meanwhile, EPerformax and Convergys topped the BPO division. EPerformax beat Mez United, 2-0, for the BPO Ladies title and Convergys edged out Timex, 2-1, for the BPO Mens crown.

Accenture finished third place in the BPO Men’s division with a 2-1 penalty shootout victory over Optum. Accenture also finished third in the BPO Ladies division with a 2-0 win over Convergys. /
