GMA Network is back to looking for a new singing superstar in “The Clash.” The newest singing battle will be hosted by Asia’s Songbird Regine Velasquez-Alcasid.

“The Clash” is set to feature aspirants who will compete against each other.

“Medyo kakaiba siya (It’s different) from all singing contests that GMA has done in the past,” Velasquez-Alcasid said. Aimed at finding a new breed of singers, the upcoming show dropped by Cebu over the weekend in a bid to find Cebuano talents worthy to join the competition.

After Cebu, the competition heads to Baguio, Davao and Metro Manila for auditions.

The competition is different since it will be mostly a oneon-one battle, hence, the title. There will be a “challenger,” who will have the freedom to choose a competitor.

For the screening process, 60 aspirants will be chosen by a panel composed of Veni Saturno, Direk Bert De Leon and Jay Durias. From that pool, 32 contenders will proceed to the main competition and will be judged by three performers: Christian Bautista, Ai-ai Delas Alas and Asia’s Nightingale Lani Misalucha.

“The Clash” will run twice in a week for 14 weeks for its first season. Velasquez-Alcasid said during the press conference that she’s hoping for a successful show and that people will support its journey.

Velasquez-Alcasid said “The Clash” started scouting for talents last year. But Cebu is the first disclosed pit stop, with Velasquez-Alcasid saying Cebuanos are usually good singers.

When asked for advice for those who will audition for the show, the singer said: “You’ll never find anyone like those superstars, but you can make your own mark and you will have your own throne in the industry.”
