10T CATHOLICS TO JOIN WALK FOR LIFE; LEADERS URGE FAITHFUL TO PROTECT LIFE

- JKV

At least 10,000 Catholics are expected to attend the Walk for Life with Mary in Cebu City this Saturday, organizers said. Organizers called on Catholics to pray for the protection of the sanctity of life, which has been threatened by various incidents of late. Msgr. Ruben Labajo, team moderator of the Cebu Metropolitan Cathedral and Archdiocesan spiritual director of the World Apostolate of Fatima, said numerous killings occurring in some parts of the country, whether state or nonstate sanctioned, are signs that life is becoming less valuable. Labajo cited the ambush-slay of Ronda Vice Mayor Jonnah John Ungab last Monday. “Ang kinabuhi karon pagkabaratoha na gyud (Life now is so cheap). His (Ungab) life was sacred. Only God can judge a person and can take away his life,” Labajo said. Aside from calling for an end to killings, the procession will also focus on proposed policies that threaten human life, marriage and the family. Fe Barino, chairman of the Cebu Archdiocesan Commission on the Laity, said the procession will start at Fuente Osmeña Circle at 3:30 a.m. From Fuente Osmeña, participants of the procession will walk toward the Cebu Metropolitan Cathedral. After the procession, Cebu Archbishop Jose Palma will celebrate mass. While the Walk for Life procession will be the first to be held in Cebu, it will be simultaneously held in other areas in the country like Manila, Laguna, Tarlac and Cagayan de Oro. /
