WATERFRONT CEBU CITY HOTEL AND CASINO: EXCELLENCE AND GROWTH IN 20 YEARS

- ANA MELISSA ORTIZ / WRITER

On Jan. 11, 1998, Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino opened its doors in the heart of the Queen City of the South.

Now in its 20th year, Waterfront is still an iconic building in Cebu with its distinct architecture and design.

Growing with the city

The hotel has always been a part of the city and has changed with it through the years. It has hosted the biggest business meetings, conventions and social events where national and international politicians, chief executive officers, athletes and artists have attended.

“We are not just a hotel like the rest, but we are a destination where it all happens,” said Anders Hallden, general manager of Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino.

With the booming tourism industry in Cebu and the opening of the new terminal in the Mactan- Cebu International Airport, Waterfront is preparing to become a top choice for tourists.

It boasts of being a destination within a destination—with its comfortable accommodation, casino, duty- free shops, meeting and events facilities, gym, spa and renowned restaurants—all while being in the center of Cebu.

Achievements

Waterfront has seen a steady growth in recent years. It is expecting an even better year this 2018, especially with being one of the five Philippine recipients of ASEAN’s first MICE (Meetings, Exhibitions, Conventions, Exhibitions) Venue Standard Award in the hotel category. It is the biggest MICE hotel in Cebu with up to 7,000 seating capacity.

Aside from this recognition, Waterfront also bagged other domestic and international awards in the past.

Hallden attributes this success to its creativity in developing solutions, special events and accommodations that suit the changing needs of guests.

“Our people are the true heroes who shaped Waterfront to what it is now,” he said.

Great outlook

In the next 20 years, Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino wants to continue to be the market leader in the hospitality industry by providing true Filipino hospitality through dedication, excellence and innovation. It is continuously committing itself to driving all guests’ experiences to new heights.

“The future looks bright, and together, we will put Cebu on the map to be the place to visit,” Hallden added.
