Tomas ‘for mayor’ in 2019

Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña will run as mayor under the Bando Osmeña Pundok Kauswagan (BOPK) in the next elections.

In his news conference yesterday, Osmeña said he decided to run again because his ultimate opponent are those big firms committing tax evasion.

“I have to focus on my fight, I will fight them. If the Cebuanos will not support me, I won’t win. I’m just telling the Cebuanos that if they support me, I will win, if they will not, I will lose. They will do everything to make me lose,” he said.

Osmeña said his decision is final.

The mayor had considered fielding his wife Councilor Margarita “Margot” Osmeña, who is serving her last term, to lessen his workload. He said he wanted to focus on other programs for the city, including encouraging investors to develop plantations in upland barangays. He also wanted to concentrate on bigger things, including the multi-billion-peso Cebu Bus Rapid Transit project.

As for his running mate, Osmeña said they will conduct a survey. He added that he will not discuss details of their plans for the election until then.
