FACING THE MUSIC:

-

At least 81 motorcycle drivers who hid their faces while riding in Mandaue City had to explain themselves on Day 1 of the strict enforcement of a ban on masks. Those with helmets were supposed to lift their face shields.

The Mandaue City Government has installed a LED screen worth P6 million where it will announce traffic updates for its constituents.

The City will also launch a Mandaue City app where users can make emergency calls in case of fire and accidents.

Mayor Gabriel Luis Quisumbing said the LED screen was purchased in October last year.

Notices, schedule of events in the City and traffic updates will be flashed on the screen for the public to see.

“We are even experimenting now sa atong LED screen for traffic conditions. About two or three times a day during the most heavy traffic period we will be able to send out sort of how heavy the traffic congestion in certain roads is,” said Quisumbing.

The mayor said the City Government is now on the final stage of the creation of the Mandaue City app.

Just like the LED screen, the app can also give notices and traffic updates.

“We already started testing this but we are fixing our system we intend the app to be first and foremost a quick way to make emergency calls for fire, ambulance and police. Naa sya’y murag big red button nga if you launch the app you press it and mo-speed dial sya sa command center and we can deploy our asset. We will also be able to push out public notices and weather reports (through the app),” said Quisumbing.

The City Government’s inhouse information technology team developed the app.

The app can be downloaded for free.

Quisumbing said they will expand it later by including a citizen’s feedback feature.

“The citizen’s feedback man gud, we wanted nga people can open the app and take a picture, for example, of a traffic violation. Let’s say may guba nga portion sa dalan (there’s a damaged portion of the street), it will automatically generate a ticket and this will be sent to the office and you’ll get an email notice that the concern has been forwarded to whatever department and the department will have to reply to you,” he added./
