A new school in town in Mactan Newtown

Megaworld opens its first school venture in the Visayas. The school is the product of the partnership between La Salle and Megaworld. With the assistance of the De La Salle Brothers through the Lasallian Schools Supervision Services Association Inc. (Lasssai), the Newtown School of Excellence was created and Megaworld spent P240 million for the building of the new school.

The campus is located near the entrance of Mactan Newtown, the township along Mactan Circumferential Road, Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu. According to Megaworld, the placing of the school’s building was strategic as it is located near the heritage sites of the Mactan Shrine and Lapu-Lapu Shrine. It will initially offer classes for the primary school for the school year 2018-2019. The school hopes to expand and offer higher levels of education as the years come.

“This school inside The Mactan Newtown will primarily cater to the children of the township homeowners, particularly those who live in our condominum developments. We will also cater to the children of the expat community and residents of Lapu-Lapu City and nearby towns and cities as well as the children of those working in nearby businesses and business process outsourcing (BPO) companies,” explained Noli D. Hernandez, president of Megaworld Cebu Properties Inc.

The school is made of two main buildings: the single-storey Kindergarten Building and the five-storey Elementary Building. The Kindergarten Building is composed of three classrooms, a library, playground and a multipurpose hall. The Elementary Building contains 21 classrooms, audio-visual rooms, computer rooms, music room, home economics room and a prayer room. It also has a library and learning resource center, auditorium, covered court, physical education instructional room, science laboratories, clinic and its own canteen.

The school also has access to its own beachfront, allowing the institution to use the beach facilities for school activities. “This school will provide an exceptional educational program through the reputable brand of Lasssai,” said Hernandez.

Megaworld claims that the curricula in different programs to be offered in the Newtown School of Excellence will be technology-based and will be geared toward academic excellence and proficiency.
