Cebu City Calamba Barangay Councilor Hildibrando Ygonia was arrested for illegal possession of firearms by operatives of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) 7 yesterday morning.

Chief Insp. Chuck Barandog of CIDG 7 said that a search warrant against Ygonia was issued by Presiding Judge Jerry Dicdican of the Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 25 in Danao City for illegal possession of firearms.

“We received reports that prior to the police operation, the barangay official had his gun always tucked in his waist in crowded places. We also received reports that he mocks the anti-illegal drug campaign,” he said.

A caliber .45 pistol and a caliber .38 revolver was confiscated from Ygonia’s possession.

Ygonia, in an interview, denied owning the caliber .38 revolver.

However, he admitted that he owned the caliber .45 pistol.

“I was advised to arm myself after I received death threats because of my constant support of the police’s anti-illegal drug operations,” he said.

Ygonia suspected that politics may be behind his arrest, but refused to elaborate on the matter.

He will face complaints for violation of Republic Act 10591, or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act. /
