Spate of killings alarms Magpale

- JKV

Cebu Vice Gov. Agnes Magpale raises concern over the increasing number of killings in Cebu.

Magpale is alarmed that the killings have reached the point where it is no longer just focused on drug suspects.

She then cited the killings of lawyer and Ronda Vice Mayor Jonnah John Ungab and San Fernando Councilor Alexander Alicaway, former Talisay City councilor Emilio Go, PO2 Romeo Bolano, SPO1 Ben Serohijos and Korean businessman Shang Ho Lee.

Majority of the killings, which has reached to 40 since Feb. 17, remain unsolved.

With some of the motives eyed behind the killings involved the victims’ work, Magpale is worried that more public officials and businessmen could be targeted next.

Two years ago, she recalled that she received death threats due to her campaign against human trafficking as chairman of the Provincial Women’s Commission.

She made clear, though, that she received no death threats this time.

She urged local police for the immediate resolution of the murders and to provide more personnel on the streets, especially that tourists are coming to Cebu this summer. /
