■ CEBU'S TRIATHLETES DOMINATE DAVAO LEG OF ALASKA IRONKIDS
Moira Erediano leads 1-2-3 sweep of Cebuanos in Girls 13-14 division of Alaska Ironkids Davao Leg
Moira Frances Erediano needed less than 44 minutes to swim 400 meters, bike 12 kilometers and run 3 kilometers, as well as win the girls 13-14 division of the Alaska Ironkids Philippines on Saturday.
Cebuana triathlete Moira Frances Erediano of Organique Triathlon Team leaned on a strong bike segment to win the girls’ 13-14 division of the Alaska Ironkids Philippines-Davao Leg yesterday.
The student of Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu (SHSAdC) completed the 400-meter swim, 12-kilometer bike and 3K run in 43 minutes and 29.8 seconds, one second ahead of another Cebuana Marielle Estreba.
Nicole Marie del Rosario of SHS-Hijas de Jesus finished at 45:35.5 to complete an all-Cebuana sweep.
Estreba of Rider Omega Pro was actually the first female to finish the swim in 5:46 and had built a slim 56-second edge from Erediano. But the latter managed to catch up in the bike segment, clocking 21:35 before finishing the run portion in 12:50.
“This race was very challenging, I trained very hard since it’s my first time to compete in the 13-14 age group. Last year, I was competing in the 11-12 age group,” said the 13-year-old Erediano. “I knew from the start that the competitors om this age group are strong and it’s hard to beat them.”
It is the third straight win for Erediano in less than a month, she won the Tawo-Tawo Triathlon last February and the 1st Kadalag-an Duathlon a week ago.
“I just trusted on the training of my coach Andoy (Remolino). My coach really targeted this race for me so I can have a good record in the 13-14 division since it’s the last age category of Alaska Ironkids,” said Erediano, who dedicated the win to her supportive parents.
The boys’ 13-14 division was won by Clifford Pusing (41:23.7), Adrian Thomas Dionisio (41:47) finished second and Irienold Reig Jr. (41:49) was third.
Earol Belonguil (32:58.9) and Asia May Celestine Araneta (41:22) topped the boys’ and girls’ 11-12 divisions, which covered a 300m swim, a 9K bike and a 2K run.
Matthew Justine Hermosa (33:05.6) and Mark Grist (35:25) were the runners-up in the boys’ class, while Angel Faith Quidasol (41:32) and Mikele Katerina Jopson (42:26) in the girl’s class took second and third, respectively, in the girls division.
The other champions are Carron Paulter Canas (26:27, boys’ 9-10), Chloie Danna Angelil Dairo (27:14, girls’ 9-10), Al Dustin Bersabal (18:03, boys’ 6-8,) and Eleora Caelle Avanzado (20:34, girls’ 6-8).
