SENATOR HAILS CTU, POSTGRAD STUDENTS
Angara said it has become increasingly difficult to find jobs in the country today because many firms want to hire employees who have advanced skills and knowledge.
Sen. Juan Edgardo “Sonny” Angara commended the Cebu Technological University (CTU) for tackling head-on the challenge of empowering students to be ready for a highly technical and competitive world.
Angara delivered a message to the CTU’s postgraduate students in technology management, development education, public administration, and industrial technology during their graduation.
“Allow me to commend CTU for their dedication and perseverance in pursuing advanced academic degrees,” he said.
Angara reminded the graduates that their degree represents more than added knowledge and skills, but a wider path to better opportunities.
“It has become increasingly challenging to find a career in the current job market due to the fact that many companies want employees with advanced knowledge,” he said.
He was told by one of the graduates that there are many firms in the public and private sector that want officials and employees who have advanced knowledge.
“This rings true in developed countries. Based on data from the Higher Education Statistics Agency in the United Kingdom, 86 percent of postgraduates find professional positions within six months after graduating, higher than the 64 percent of first degree graduates,” Angara said.
In the United States, he added that the Council of Graduate Schools estimated that jobs that require a master’s degree are expected to grow by 21.7 percent in 2020.
