Catmon, Medellin win in Gov Cup volleyball North Div. quarters

-

The volleybelles from Catmon asserted their dominance with a straight sets win, 25-10, 25-23, over Tabogon in the North Division quarterfinals in the 1st Governors Cup Volleyball Tournament yesterday.

Most of Catmon’s players had just come off a silver medal finish in elementary girls’ volleyball in the 2018 Palarong Pambansa in Ilocos Sur. They drew first blood in the north division quarters in the Liloan Municipal Gym.

In contrast to the Catmon and Tabogon game, Medellin needed three sets to sneak past the determined Danao City team, 15-25, 25-21, 25-20.

The Stephanie Bustrillo-led Medellin lost the first set to Danao City before escaping with a closely-contested second set by four points and a third set by five points.

Bustrillo, 17, played for the Central Visayas Regional Athletic Association (Cviraa) girls’ secondary volleyball in the Palarong Pambansa.

Catmon and Medellin now sport identical 1-0 cards, while Danao City and Tabogon both have a 0-1 record in the single-round robin quarterfinals, where the top two teams will advance to the next round.

The North Division quarterfinals was delayed to give way to the players who represented Region 7 in the Palarong Pambansa.

Mandaue City and Liloan were still playing as of press time. /
