ABC ELECTIONS DOMINATED BY KIN OF INCUMBENT EXECS

In the first district, the husband of tbe San Fernando mayor, the first cousin of the mayor of the City of Naga, and the son of the Carcar City mayor all ran unopposed, while the wife of the Talisay City vice mayor won “unanimousl­y”

Four relatives of incumbent city and town officials were elected as presidents of the Associatio­n of Barangay Councils (ABC) in the first district of Cebu yesterday.

In Talisay City, San Isidro Barangay Captain Marietta “Yehyen” Bucao was elected as the city’s ABC president during the ABC elections yesterday.

Bucao, a third-term village chief, is the wife of Vice Mayor Alan Bucao.

Plans

She vowed to improve the ABC’s management by streamlini­ng its policies, particular­ly on the process of procuremen­t for barangay-based infrastruc­ture projects.

She also wants to improve the status of Talisay’s barangays, particular­ly in their campaigns against illegal drugs by reactivati­ng the Barangay Anti-Drug Abuse Councils (Badac).

In the City of Naga, East Poblacion Barangay Captain Scott Chiong ran unopposed.

He is the first cousin of Mayor Kristine Vanessa Chiong and the son of the late Naga town mayor Ferdinand “Enan” Chiong.

In San Fernando, Panadtaran Barangay Captain Ricardo Reluya also ran unopposed.

Reluya is the husband of Mayor Neneth Reluya.

In Carcar City, Valladolid Barangay Captain Anthony John “Antoy” Apura also ran unopposed.

Apura is the son of Mayor Nicepuro Apura.

In Minglanill­a, Vito Barangay Captain Jennifer Lariosa beat incumbent ABC president and Barangay Tulay Captain Rumulos Laput.

In Sibonga, Papan Barangay Captain Rolando Dela Vega secured the unanimous support of the town’s 25 barangays.
