Hospital gets P14M surgical machine

-

The Cebu Provincial Hospital in Carcar City can now conduct minimal invasive surgeries and procedures after the Capitol bought a laparoscopic tower worth P14 million.

Dr. Rene Catan, acting Provincial Health Officer, said CPH-Carcar City is the second government hospital in Cebu now capable of conducting minimal invasive procedures; the other is Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center.

The laparoscopic tower, which is composed of different types of equipment, can be used to conduct laparoscopic surgery which requires only small incisions.

The device also allows surgeons to conduct surgery with the use of a laparoscope, a long fiber optic cable system that allows viewing of the affected area by snaking the cable from a more distant, but more easily accessible location.

“That means less bleeding for the patient and early recovery,” Catan said.

Catan said they put the laparoscopic tower at the CPH in Carcar City since it was the first developed by the Province and has the largest number of patients.

The new equipment will be an additional feature to the CPH-Carcar City which now has an operating intensive care unit (ICU) for children and adults.

Catan said use of the equipment for surgeries in Carcar will be free, especially if the patient is a Philhealth member.
