Sun Life ‘eager’ for millennial advisors
Sun Life of Canada (Philippines) Inc. said it is on track to achieving its goal of five million clients by 2020.
New Sun Life chief executive officer and country head Benedict Sison said that as of December, the life insurance firm has already hit 3.9 million clients, of which half are millennials.
Sison said they expect to increase this figure as they continue their aggressive efforts in getting more Filipinos insured and deepen their relationship with their clients.
Specifically, Sun Life eyes an annual growth of at least 30 percent for its business in Cebu in the next two years.
“Cebu has always played a significant role in Sun Life’s opera- tions, but we believe that there is still so much potential for our business here,” said Sison.
To achieve its target, one of the company’s initiatives in Cebu is to grow its financial advisors from 300 to 1,000.
“We are specifically eager to attract more millennials into this profession,” he said.
“We’d like to create more opportunities to connect with Cebuanos and show them how Sun Life can help them in their financial journey,” he added.
According to Sison, Cebu, despite its booming economy remains “under-penetrated” as far as insurance is concerned, the reason they need to beef up their financial literacy campaign and recruitment of financial advisors.
“There’s an increasing prosperity here,” he said, adding that the challenge is to make Filipinos better understand the value of getting insurance.
Awareness
But Sison is confident that selling insurance these days would no longer be difficult unlike in the past years, as Filipinos are now more informed.
“Filipinos are now well-informed and this is one of the benefits we get from the advances in technology. There is now a growing awareness of insurance as a tool for protection and investment, he said.
Sun Life Philippines now has over 12,000 financial advisors. /
