CEBU GOLFERS STAY IN THE HUNT
Wewei Gao, LK Go shoot even par; LJ Go shoots 74 in first round of individual play in Asian Games golf
Cebuano golfers Weiwei Gao and Lois Kaye Go scored an even 72 while Lloyd Jefferson Go hit a twoover par 74 on their debut in the 2018 Asian Games at the Pondok Indah Golf and Country Club in Indonesia yesterday.
The 18-year-old Gao was at joint 14th place with China’s Huachuang Zhang, Thailand’s Kosuke Hamamoto and South Korea’s Seungtaek Oh after Round 1 of the men’s golf individual competition.
Lloyd Jefferson Go struggled a bit with 74 and was at 27th place with Sri Lanka’s Sachin De Silva, Kazakhstan’s Tuleubayev Daulet, Hong Kong’s Chunan Yu and Malaysia’s Kanavathi Rhaasrikanesh.
The 19-year-old Lois Kaye Go finished the first round with par-72 in the women’s individual. Lois Kaye fired three birdies in holes No. 7, 10 and 18 to offset a double bogey in hole No.10.
Lois Kaye was at No.12 among the female golfers in Asia and was tied with fellow Filipino Bianca Pagdanganan, Jen Wen Ashley Lau of Malaysia, Natasha Andrea Oon of Malaysia, Melati Putri Indira Ayu Ida of Indonesia and Yuchiang Hou of Chinese Taipei.
On the other hand, Divine Wal- ly salvaged the fifth bronze medal for the Philippines in the wushu’s women’s -52 kgs of sanda late Wednesday night.
The veteran Wally lost to a taller and more aggressive Samiroumi Elaheh Mansoryan of Iran, 1-2, in the quarterfinal match to settle for bronze medal at the Jakarta International Expo.
Wally, 24, improved on her fifth place finished in the quadrennial meet as she gave the second bronze medal coming from wushu team following Agatha Wong’s bronze medal in women’s taolu. /
