Group reminds police: Do sworn duty

-

Carrying a white casket bearing the name of four-year-old Skyler Abatayo and 23 other dead individuals, more than 300 members of the movement Nagpakabanang Sugbuanon alang sa Kinabuhi ug Hustisya (Nasukhu) marched to the Police Regional Office (PRO) 7 to submit a manifesto raising concern on the spate of killings in Cebu.

Atty. Vincent Isles of the Silent Majority said they submitted the manifesto to remind the police of their sworn duty.

“They need to be reminded of the procedure because we are a government of law,” he said.

They also urged the police to conduct investigations on the recent deaths in the province.

“Imbestigahan nila aron makitan nato ang hustisya sa mga taw nga nangamatay,” Isles said.

Abatayo was grade school student who was killed after he was hit by a stray bullet during a drug bust in Sitio Bato, Barangay Ermita last July 10.

“In the ideal world, they will act on it and they will give us an idea kung unsa ilang response and kung di nila buhaton, magpadayon mi sa among pagpahinumdum,” the lawyer said.

PRO 7 Director Chief Supt. Debol Sinas said he received the manifesto and will study it.

Nasukhu is a convergence of solidarity movements, social development organizations, human rights defenders and concerned individuals calling for accountability on the spate of killings in Cebu. /
