“It’s quite common for ‘smart casual’ to be the dress code for an event since we all want pretty much anything smarter than a tracksuit but less formal than a suit. I always try to add something comfortable (without having to jeopardize my sense of style) to my getup. In an attempt to still look professional but not too casual on a weekday, I threw in some plaid pants and paired it with a jacket along with a good pair of footwear that complemented the whole ensemble.”

List of brands:

1 Denim Jacket – Forever21

2 White Hoodie – Topman

3 Plaid Pants – Uniqlo

4 Shoes – Adidas

Check out John’s style tips:

■ Learn how to use shade. Adjust the casualness of your look. Darker colors tend to look more formal. Want to look “smarter?” It can be as simple as going for lighter colors that complements your look.

■ Start with a more casual look, and then change at least one to two pieces for smarter alternatives. Swap your typical bomber jacket, shirt, jeans and trainers, with blazers, trousers and shoes to achieve the smart casual look.

■ Know your size because size really matters. Your clothes should always complement your body type. If it means tailor fitting it to your size, go for it.

■ When in doubt, play it safe. Whenever you’re not sure of your choice of clothing, wear a good pair of shoes and it will surely set the tone of the whole look.

■ Have fun. Don’t be afraid to work with colors and different patterns. If wearing bold tiger print and pink shorts makes you happy then by all means, go out there and have the best day ever.
