DID YOU SEE THAT ‘RICH’ SCENE?

-

“Crazy Rich Asians” actor Chris Pang called Kris Aquino the real crazy rich Asian.

Australian-Taiwanese actor Pang, who played Colin Khoo in the hit film, was recently in the Philippines to promote a project, according to a report by the Philippine Entertainment Portal (Pep). In an interview, Pang revealed some of his impressions about Aquino while filming “Crazy Rich Asians.”

The 33-year-old actor said he didn’t know who Aquino then, but he was surprised she arrived to film her cameo with 18 assistants. Aquino had a brief appearance in the film as Princess Intan.

“She’s the real crazy rich Asian. All of us were acting and trying to dig deep into this life that we didn’t know, but she was just playing herself,” Pang told Preview magazine.

He later clarified to Pep that the comment was not intended to be a negative thing.

“I said Kris Aquino was the real crazy rich Asian and I got in trouble for that,” said Pang. “People were like: ‘You shouldn’t have said that!’ But I felt like that was a good thing. She should be in the film. The film benefited from having her in it.”

In some cinemas in the Philippines, the audience applauded the entrance of Princess Intan, a snobbish Malay royalty who doesn’t talk to anybody. Princess Intan appeared in a Michael

Cinco gown at a wedding scene and walked regally to her place while the rest of the guests talked about her. Rachel Chu (Constance Wu), unaware of Princess Intan’s background, ambushed her anyway and gabbed away.

“Please know your heartwarming comments and posts have made me feel immeasurable GRATITUDE,” Aquino said on social media, referring to the positive response of her cameo. “I thank you for the effort to watch @crazyrichasians, some of you going multiple times with family, officemates, best friends, school barkadas, and your boyfriends and husbands.”

“The eyewitness accounts of spontaneous applause and cheering in movie theaters nationwide when my character made her entrance in Colin & Araminta’s wedding, and most significant for me, the PRIDE you, the moviegoers, felt in being FILIPINO during my few minutes portraying Princess Intan in @crazyrichasians—this feeling of SOLIDARITY for the sake of our NATIONAL IDENTITY will forever inspire me to strive harder to promote and protect our values, dignity and grace as a people.”

“I embraced the blessing because for that moment, I WAS YOU, and YOU WERE ME. #ilovethephilippines,” added Aquino.

“She looked beautiful in the yellow dress that’s her family’s signature color,” said Pang after learning more about the Philippines’ Queen of Talk. “It was nice. It’s lovely to have her onboard because she is so adored in the Philippines. She is such a big name here. To have her as part of a film that we’re trying to put together with an international and important Asian cast, it’s perfect to have her in the film to represent the Philippines. She has a very, very memorable role in the movie.”

“Crazy Rich Asians” is currently the number one film in the North American box office for the second week in a row. It’s the first film with an all-Asian

cast.
