Milo celebrates its 33rd year of supporting grassroots sports with another edition of the Milo Little Olympics.
The Milo Little Olympics Visayas 2018 opens today in the Cebu City Sports Center, where around 5,000 athletes from different regions of the Visayas will compete in 15 sports disciplines.
“We at Milo made a mission to encourage Filipinos, especially the children, to become active in sports,” said Milo Sports Executive Lester Castillo in the final presser yesterday in the Cube Atrium of SM Seaside City. “We want to highlight the valuable lessons learned through sports.” The opening ceremony today is highlighted by the parade of participants, the lighting of the urn for peace and unity, the Ms. Milo Little Olympics and special awards.
“We had an increase in the number of participants this year,” said Milo Visayas organizer Ricky Ballesteros.
There will be a total of 2,321 athletes for elementary and a total of 2,569 athletes for the secondary division.
All 15 sports officially kick off tomorrow in five venues: SM Seaside City, CCSC, Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu (SHS-AdC), Alta Vista Country Club and City Green Tennis Court. The events are arnis, athletics, badminton, basketball, chess, football, gymnastics, karatedo, lawn tennis, scrabble, sepak takraw, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo and volleyball. Seven of the 15 sports will be played in SM Seaside City, the event’s major partner.
SM Seaside City assistant mall manager Rose Salvallon assured the mall is very much prepared to host the games.
“In the past couple of months, we have been meeting with the organizers. We already had security discussions and the marketing has been informed. We want everyone to be safe in the mall for the games,” she said.
The sports that will be played inside the mall are arnis, chess, gymnastics, karatedo, table tennis, and taekwondo. /
