Pink October Run looks to empower Cancer survivors

-

If there is something the Pink October Run is proud of in its 11 years of existence, it is the increased awareness about breast cancer.

“Year after year, we see new faces joining the activity. With that awareness, year after year, we have seen an increase in the number of people going for the check-ups to get checked for signs of breast cancer and many people are now going and trying to avail themselves of the discounts that we give,” said Ian Virrey, marketing associate of Ayala Center Cebu.

This year, the Pink October Run will be staging its 12th edi- tion on Oct. 7 in the Cebu Business Park.

As it had in the past editions, the Pink October Run looks to increase awareness about breast cancer and more importantly, to empower women, especially breast cancer survivors.

“In terms of the benefits that people can get from the run, the Pink October Run could also empower women, especially the breast cancer survivors,” said Nemia Corilla of ICanServe, one of the beneficiaries of the event.

All finishers will receive a pink medal, which is symbolic of what the run is all about.

Head organizer Dr. Peter Mancao said in a press conference yesterday that the event will not dangle monetary rewards aside from the medal.

“Wala ta’y cash prize, ever since. This is one of the few races that started to not give cash prizes,” Mancao said.

But he assured that this race could assess avid runners’ performance, especially that Milo Marathon is a week after the Pink October Run.

The fun run will have three categories, the 3K, 6K, and 12K, and will have the men’s, women’s and doctors’ divisions.

The registration will start on Sept. 17 in the Active Zone in Ayala.
