Kathniel sad about separate projects

- ROGER SERNA / Writer

Twenty thousand—more or less—excited fans gathered to patiently wait for Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla at the SM Seaside City Cebu last Monday. The two actors, collectively known as Kathniel, were in Cebu two days before the nationwide opening of their new film, “The Hows of Us.”

The number is an indicator of another blockbuster Star Cinema project of one of the country’s most enduring young love teams. According to ABS-CBN News, the movie earned close to P36 million on opening day last Wednesday.

The excitement is said to have escalated after Padilla admitted on national television (“Gandang Gabi Vice”) that he and Bernardo have been in a relationship for over five years.

Bernardo said that “the fans deserve to know.” However, there are no immediate wedding plans yet.

At the Cebu press conference, both stars admitted having mixed emotions on their upcoming projects, which, this time, will require them to work separately. While Padilla’s project is still on the drawing board, Bernardo’s is one which reunites megastar Sharon Cuneta and Richard Gomez.

Bernardo admitted feeling “weird, sad and excited.” However, she was thankful that it will be handled by director Cathy Garcia-Molina, whom she is comfortable working with.

Padilla, on the other hand, described working without Bernardo as “nakakapanibago at malungkot

(something new and sad).” But he felt “proud” for Bernardo, though, to be in the company of Cuneta and Gomez.

Padilla added that the career move is beneficial for both of them as they need to individually grow as actors.
