The police have no clue yet on the identities of the assailants of a village official in Alegria town in southweste­rn Cebu.

Alegria Police Chief Canciano Llenos said they are checking the background of the victim, Juanita Lobrino Enclonar, a councilor of Barangay Guadalupe, Alegria.

He said the 52-year-old victim did not report any threat on her life.

The police station has no derogatory records of Enclonar, who also sold vegetables at the public market in Sitio Sangi, Barangay Madridejos, Alegria.

Initial investigat­ion showed that Eclonar was buying fish at the market Tuesday night when a man wearing a helmet approached her and shot her several times.

The gunman then fled on a motorcycle driven by a cohort.

Enclonar succumbed to at least four gunshot wounds in the head and other parts of her body.

The medical team of Argao municipal disaster and risk reduction management office rushed Enclonar to the Reinhard Wirtgen Memorial Hospital, where the doctor declared her dead.

The motive behind the attack has yet to be determined by police investigat­ors.
