UC, UV TO BOOST HOLD OF TOP SPOTS

UC eyes 10th win against upset-seeking USJ-R; Twotime champion UV takes on USC

The University of Cebu (UC) Webmasters and the surging University of the Visayas (UV) Green Lancers look to solidify their grip in the top two spots of the college division with a win in the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) tonight at the Cebu Coliseum.

UC takes on University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) Jaguars in the main game tonight, while defending champion UV faces off with University of San Carlos (USC) Warriors in the opening game.

UC bounced back last Tuesday night after suffering its first loss in season, an 81-75 upset in the hands of bottom-dweller Cebu Institute of Technology-University (CIT-U) over the weekend. UC beat University of Southern Philippine­s Foundation (USPF) Panthers, 65-56.

Paul Galinato led UC’s return to the winning column with 20 points, six boards and three steals. Frederick Elombi also had a huge game with 14 points and 21 rebounds.

After a rough start, UV has shown its championsh­ip form. It was in full display last Tuesday night after it convincing­ly ended CIT-U’s Cinderella run with a 9879 beating.

Josue Segumpan led the Green Lancers with 19 points, while Michael Maestre logged a double-double with 16 markera and 11 boards.

UC leads the college division standings with a 9-1 clip, while UV sits at second place with a 7-3 card. USJ-R is third at 6-3, USPF is fourth at 5-6, while USC is fifth at 4-6. /
