Success, away from home

- BY EVA A. TENCHAVEZ

All athletes aim to bring a medal when they go back to their hometown from a competition.

It is not easy being an athlete. They use both their mind and strength to succeed. They are the amazing players in the field of sports. Cebu is known for its numerous athletes who are now famous nationally because through their unparalleled skills.

To name some, we have June Mar Fajardo from Pinamungajan, Cebu, a well-known basketball player and Isa Molde from Catmon, Cebu, a prominent University of the Philippines volleyball player.

They were once athletes in public schools. Now they’re up there, enjoying the game and the fame!

Students who reach this level have gone through intense trainings for months. That is why, before they come to battle, their main goal is to bring home the bacon.

Being away from their comfort zones for a week, a month or even a year is a sign of maturity. It isn’t easy to deal each day with the absence of their strength providers.

That only shows how dedicated and devoted the athletes are in aiming for success.

Camaraderie has been visible during this event. The teachers and coaches are successful in inculcating to the minds of the athletes the effect of cheering each other in order to boost self-confidence and reach the desired goal--to win.

There are always two sides of the coin. You win or you lose.

Yet, looking at the faces of our dear students, their rapid change of facial expressions to situations make me conclude that the title is just a bonus for them, the experience counts more than anything else.

It is indeed a success when you get to survive for a week away from your beloved ones and go home with all smiles because the experience help you learn to be independent, dedicated, disciplined and an educated.

I am certain that these athletes are looking forward for the upcoming 2018 Provincial Meet.

level up and go back much more equipped with the trainings that they’ll be involving in.

The behavior of the young minds definitely illustrates how much love they’re putting in to the game. They play, they cheer and they strengthen the bonds of each other.

Teachers should continue to facilitate and guide the learners in making them always understand that it is not the winning that counts, it is how they play the game.

My congratulations in advance to all the athletes of Cebu Province.

Your parents must have been very proud of you dear students. Keep playing and improving! Soar high athletes. Don’t put a limit on anything because the more you dream for success, the further you get!
