USC BAGS WOMEN’S TITLE IN ABOITIZ CUP

All-around Lyka Bordin tows USC to women’s open title, wins MVP award

-

Members of the University of San Carlos (USC) women’s team were singing Lyka Bordin’s name after the Aboitiz Cup women’s finals and they had every reason to. The all-around Bordin towed USC to a one-sided beating of 4GP, 3-0, to win the Aboitiz Cup women’s open title at the Paref-Springdale field yesterday, capping a successful season.

Bordin, a defender, got her name in contention for the Golden Boot award after scoring her third goal of the tournament in the first half to give USC a 1-0 lead over 4GP, a team that was coached by former USC mentor Gary Panagsagan.

In the second half, Chen Bacus tried to make it 2-0 but was denied by the keeper but moments later, there was no denying Kiara Amarga as she banged it from close range. It was a similar story for USC in the their third goal. Denise Lood’s probing shot was denied but moments later, Jolina Colon put it beyond doubt as she got the ball in a goal-mouth scramble for the third goal just moments before the final whistle.

Colon’s goal was her fourth for the tournament, breaking her tie with Bordin to win the Golden Boot award. On the other hand, Bordin was named MVP and the best defender, while Lyndsey Cabang got the best keeper award. 4GP’s Gina Arceo broke the USC monopoly and won the best midfielder award.

In the Under 7 division played last Saturday, host Don Bosco Technology Center (DBTC) eked out a narrow 1-0 win over the University of San Jose-Recoletos to win the title, while KNF UCF defeated Cebu International School (CIS), 7-1, to win the battle for third place.

DBTC added another in the U9 division after a 2-1 win over Canduman in the finals, while KNF UCF also won the battle for third place, 2-0, against CIS.
