Sharks extend streak

The Cebu City Sharks-Casino Ethyl Alcohol’s streak of victories continued following another win last Saturday night, Oct. 27.

The Sharks beat Marikina Shoemaster­s, 78-74, at the Mayor Vitaliano D. Agan Coliseum in Zamboanga City despite a slow start.

After trailing at halftime, the Sharks came alive in the third quarter and outscored the Shoemaster­s, 24-11, to take a 58-57 lead coming into the fourth quarter.

Cebu City stayed hot and started the fourth with an 8-2 run.

The Sharks led by as much as seven points, but Marikina refused to surrender and tied it at 70-70 with a three-point play by Yves Sason with 2:42 remaining.

Big man Edrian Lao, a new acquisitio­n, got the lead back for Cebu City by converting both his free throws, 72-70. Renato Ular tied the game again, 72-72, with a layup.

Erwin Sta. Maria gave the Shoemaster­s their first lead in the final frame, 74-73 but Patrick Cabahug stepped up and sank a clutch three-pointer with 56 seconds left and sealed it with a jumper after a missed threepoint shot by Sason.

Cabahug once again led the Sharks with 17 points, six rebounds, three assists, a steal and a block. Gayford Rodriguez, another new acquisitio­n, chipped in 15 markers, while Lao added 11.

Sason scored 23 points for Marikina. Ular had a double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds, Sta. Maria added 11.

Cebu City has won its third in a row since playing its first home game here in Cebu City. The Sharks are now 4-8, while Marikina dropped to 4-8.
