‘NO FOUL PLAY’ IN PAG-IBIG LEAP

Initial police investigation finds family squabble as cause of suicide

-

The Mabolo Police did not find any sign of foul play in the death of a Pag-ibig Fund accounting assistant who reportedly jumped from the rooftop of the 12-storey Pag-ibig Fund-WT Corporate Tower and died at 6:37 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 21.

The victim, Anthony Ang, 24, sustained severe damage on his head and body.

Cebu City Police Office Director Royina Garma ordered an investigation into Ang’s death.

SPO1 Antonio Din, Mabolo Police homicide investigator, said family problems may have pushed the victim to take his own life.

Din earlier thought Ang had problems with his lover, but a talk with Ang’s sister revealed that Ang had problems with his family. The sister did not give further details.

“Gipangutana nako ang igsuon ug ang mama. Wala daw ni uyab. Unya didto misaka sad mi sa taas sa opesina. Wala sad daw gyud ni uyab, so family problem daw ni kay nagkita pa ni sila sa balay, nya murag nag -away silang managsuon (We asked the sister and his (Anthony’s) mother and learned that he had no girlfriend. His officemates also said the same. The sister and Anthony saw each other in their house, and it seemed the siblings had a quarrel),” said Din.

The police will submit Ang’s body to an autopsy to verify if there really was no foul play despite the account of the building’s security guard who saw the victim alone on the rooftop. The guards saw him on the rooftop through the CCTV cameras, and tried to catch him but were too late.

Officemates said Ang was a quiet person. He was assigned as an accounting staff member at the short-term loan division.

His colleagues did not notice anything unusual with Ang prior to the incident, although on Tuesday, Nov. 20, he was absent.

Ang, who lives in Mabolo, Cebu City, joined the Pag-ibig staff in April this year. He was from Biliran Province.

Before the incident, his colleague, accounting assistant Marelie Capocong, received a message from Ang, which seemed like the latter was saying goodbye.

“Pakisabi kay Mam Weng sorry kasi di ako nakapagpaalam. Pakisabi din na salamat sa lahat2 lalo na sa LAD. Salamat, Mam. Ingat kayo lagi (Please tell Mam Weng I am so sorry I wasn’t able to say goodbye. Also tell everyone in LAD thank you. Thank you, Ma’am. You take care always),” a part of Ang’s text message read.
