CERC VOWS BETTER MARATHON IN 2019
The Cebu Executive Runners Club (CERC) listened to the feedback from the runners and the running community to infuse the needed improvements for the 12th Cebu Marathon set on Jan. 13 at the Cebu Business Park.
“We listened to the feedback of the runners; the positive or negative, but mostly we listen to the negative ones since these can be used to improve the run,” said CERC member Meyrick Jacalan in the event’s press conference at the Mooon Cafe Ayala on Thursday, Dec. 6.
One of the things that the organizers put emphasis this year is to provide a quality medal to the finishers. The medal will be locally made by Suarez Brothers.
“Based on last year, the quality of the medal is dili kaayo nindot. The design, size, quality and weight of the medal are different this year,” he said. “It’s a little expensive for us organizers, but it’s worth the money since it’s considered as a memorabilia for most of the runners.”
Just like the previous editions, the race will continue to bring the runners to a festive atmosphere with the presence of bands and performers along the route, said CERC’s John Pages.
“That festive atmosphere set us apart from the other running events,” said Pages.
CERC president Kenneth Casquejo announced that the registration will be until Dec. 16. Organizers advised runners who are planning to join to better not miss the deadline.
Pages added that there are 32 different nationalities who have registered, so far.
According to technical race director Joel Juarez, the race route is basically the same as last year saved for minor revisions that will enable the organizers to open the pier area much earlier for the motorists. All the routes will be within Cebu City.
As of the latest count, there are 1,100 runners registered in the 42-kilometer category, 1,200 participants in the 21K and more than 200 in the 5K.
Registration can be done onsite or online. Entry fee is P2,100 for the 42K, P1,800 for the 21K and P750 for the 5K. /
