DBTC clinches Boys 15 title of the Aboitiz Cup

Don Bosco routs Giuseppe, 3-0, in final; SHS-Ateneo de Cebu gets past Abellana, 1-0, in Boys 18 semifinals

The Don Bosco Technological Center (DBTC) wins the Boys 15 title of the Aboitiz Cup in a one-sided 3-0 victory over Giuseppi FC, while Cesafi champion Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu advances to the Aboitiz Cup Boys 18 final by beating Pomeroy 1-0.

Don Bosco Technological Center dominated Giuseppe FC to win the Boys 15 title of the Aboitiz Cup at their own pitch last Dec. 8.

Two weeks after losing in the finals of the SunStar Cup, DBTC made sure it would be bringing home the silverware as it leaned on Paul Mapula, Simon del Campo and Louis Barro for the goals in a one-sided 3-0 win over Giuseppe FC.

John Christian Cyril Calo won the best goalkeeper award, while Vaugh York Pacaña got the golden boot. CJ Songalia was named the best midfielder, Jose Abad got the best defender trophy, while del Campo was named the division MVP.

In the battle for third, DBTC 2 won the easy way after Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu (SHS-AdC) failed to show up for their match.

Meanwhile, in the Boys 18 division, Ateneo is a step closer to the title after outlasting Pomeroy, 1-0, in a testy semifinal at the Cebu City Sports Center also last Dec. 8.

Benjie Lagrama had the best chance for ANS in the first half but he hit the bar with his long shot from 30 yards. On the other hand, Chris Osawa had to spend time at the sideline late in the first half after getting injured when he and the ANS keeper clashed during a breakaway.

He would get the perfect vengeance in the second half.

With a teammate controlling the ball at the right flank, Osawa timed his run perfectly to receive the ball uncontested inside the box to swing in the lone goal.

Ateneo will take on the winner of the other semifinal between Paref-Springdale and Don Bosco Boys Home, which will be played on Dec. 9.

On the other hand, the University of San Carlos-Queen City United finished on top after an 8-0 win over DB Magone last Dec. 7, avoiding a clash with title-favorite Leylam in the quarterfinal. USC-QC will instead take on the University of the Visayas, which finished second in Group C after a 6-1 loss to Leylam.

Leylam will face Southwestern University in the quarterfinals.

In the other quarterfinal matchup, Don Sacredale will take on the University of Cebu without former youth team member Niko Villacin in the lineup. Villacin will be sitting out the match due to a red card in their last game. Group A No. 2 University of San Jose-Recoletos will also face Makoto in the quarterfinals. /
