USPF nabs two wins to improve to 3-0 record in women’s division

The University of Southern Philippines-Foundation (USP-F) women’s team dumped two foes on Saturday, Dec. 8, to show their clear intention of going the distance in this season of the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) beach volleyball tournament.

The volleybelles from the Lahug-based school took the top spot in the women’s standing with a clean 3-0 (win-loss) record after beating the University of San Carlos (USC) and University of Cebu (UC) at the Fort San Pedro sand court.

USP-F threaded the needle against USC with the game going down to the deciding third set.

USP-F owned the first set with a 21-15 score, but the USC side did not go down without fighting, taking a 21-18 set to force a decider. USP-F managed to get the better end of the matchup with a sixpoint edge, 15-9, in the final set.

There were two other games that were played before USP-F returned to the sand court for their next game. USP-F showed no sign of fatigue with a dominating straight sets win over UC, 21-9, 21-9.

The women’s defending champion Southwestern University (SWU-Phinma) beat the Cebu Institute of Technology-University (CIT-U), 21-8, 21-11, but lost USC, 18-21, 22-20, 15-10, to drop to a 3-1 slate. /
