Police on the lookout for armed persons
The conduct of checkpoints under the supervision of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) will start at 12 a.m. on Sunday, Jan. 13, to prevent the proliferation of loose firearms.
The election gun ban will run from Jan. 13 to June 12, according to the Comelec.
The Police Regional Office (PRO) 7 also announced on Friday, Jan. 11, that they would conduct regular checkpoints.
Gun ban exemption
PRO 7 Director Debold Sinas said public announcements were made to let owners of firearms know that they could surrender their weapons to police stations for safekeeping.
As of Saturday, Jan. 12, he said no individual had applied for a gun ban exemption.
Without the exemption, a gun owner with a license and a permit to carry firearm will be arrested if he is caught carrying his gun outside his residence.
Sinas said the first police station to arrest a gun ban violator will receive a reward from him.
